Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I’m going to attempt to complete the challenging Devil Mud Run course to raise money for Cheltenham Oncology Centre.
I’ve done the Devil Mud Run once before but not in the condition I’m in now... On the 4th of January this year I was diagnosed with testicular cancer, a complete shock and a diagnosis that went on to be far more of a challenge than initially thought for me and my family
After my surgery to remove the tumour I was advised to go though a cycle of chemotherapy to reduce the chance of the cancer returning which was a no brainer, however after only one week of returning home from my first batch I was back in hospital in a bad way having developed appendicitis whilst being neutropenic.
After having my appendix out I finished my first cycle of chemo a fair bit lighter and with a lot less hair only to be told the cancer had returned and moved to my lymph nodes, so two more cycles of chemo were to greet me.
The second cycle passed without too much drama other than the sickness and complete fatigue that comes with chemo and I was onto the third and worse cycle, once again neutropenic I was unable to fight anything off and caught chickenpox that put me back in hospital for another week.
After finally finishing my third and last cycle I started my recovery but not before a small run in with pneumonia. Four weeks on from that, five months after the start of my treatment and 27 bags of chemo later the road to recovery is looking good but only because of the amazing work of all the Consultants, Doctors, Sisters, Nurses and Assistance at Cheltenham Oncology Centre. So now it’s time to try and give something back and raise as much money as possible for a great cause!
The Challenge of this run will be a big one but not as much as what it’s taken to get here so I’ll be sure to give it my best, and if that’s not good enough I’ve got a great group doing it with me that might have to carry me across the finish line!
