Especially now that schools have been closed for so long, more children than ever will need help with reading. Even before lockdown, many children were leaving primary school unable to read to the expected level - 1 in 4 children in 2019. If a child is unable to read well they might struggle with their secondary education and this can potentially hold them back from so many opportunities in life. Schoolreaders provides volunteers to primary schools to give one-to-one reading support to address this problem. I want every child to be able to get the most out of books, and life.
So I have started walking 5 miles each day- not always easy during the school week when I am lucky enough to have lessons all day. I am planning to do this for 100 days in succession. I started walking on May 25th and will finish my challenge on the 2nd of September, the day after I hopefully go back to school. And yes, I was inspired by the song...
