I saw for myself the inspiring work being done by a boxing club called Fight For Peace, just one of this charities many projects worldwide and in the UK, when I visited a favela in Rio de Janeiro while traveling earlier this year. Through its focus on boxing, Fight for Peace has maintained regular contact with young people from the favela most affected by violence and drug trafficking, offering free access to sports and education courses. They are helping to create real alternatives to crime, armed violence and the drug trade for children and adolescents in this community. This is fundamental if the number of young people dying unnecessarily is ever to be reduced.
