Story
Hi everyone,
Myself, David Palmer-Jones and my team at SUEZ comprising Graham Mayes, Gary Mayson, Chris Thorn, Tracey Leghorn, Florent Duval, Mark Thompson, Owen Maybank, Stuart Hayward-Higham and Adam Read are undertaking the Three Peaks Challenge as part of this year's Big Event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and we would love your help (that means cash!!).
From 24 June, we'll be walking over 42 kilometres and ascending over 3,000 metres as we endeavour to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon. It's fair to say that with an average age of around 50 and with many of us becoming a little more "cuddly" during lockdown, this will be a real challenge for us.
It will test us in the extreme but knowing the huge difference that our fundraising efforts could make (with your help!!) will undoubtedly keep us motivated and on track.
At SUEZ, Macmillan Cancer Support has been our charity partner for the last eight years, during which time we have raised over £350,000 for Macmillan and those living with cancer. We had actually planned to do our Three Peak Challenge last year but we had to postpone due to the pandemic.
We weren't the only ones, meaning that amazing charities such as Macmillan need our support more than ever. That's why this year I have challenged our 5,600 strong workforce to raise £100,000, the largest amount we have ever raised in a single year, and the 3 Peak Challenge is me and my team doing our bit for the cause.
And in line with our environmental beliefs within the company we will be undertaking the challenge in an all-electric car fleet meaning that we can do it with zero emissions. And so, if the Three Peaks wasn't tough enough, we'll be starting it the morning after a 10-hour drive from our office in Maidenhead to Fort William. I just hope that everybody remembers to pack the charge cables!
The pandemic has dominated all of our lives over the last year but the Big C is still here for many people who need Macmillan more than ever. There are currently 3 million people living with cancer in the UK, with someone receiving a cancer diagnosis every two minutes.
We know that one in two people in the UK will experience a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. For more than 100 years Macmillan has been there for people with cancer when they needed them most.
Today is no exception! Cancer is not going anywhere. And neither can Macmillan. Please join us in supporting Macmillan, so they can keep providing physical, financial and emotional support to the millions of people that count on them. Any donations, no matter how large or small will be very gratefully received.
Thank you,
John
