Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My aunt

On January 16 2013, my aunt was diagnosed with renal cancer.

Much to my family’s anguish, she was told she only had 9 months to live.

Her 3 children and husband had planned for her remaining months to be the happiest she could imagine and to create unforgettable memories which she could take away with her.

Sadly however, she passed away less than 6 weeks after being diagnosed on 1st March 2013. This made Mother's Day, her very own birthday and her daughter's birthday, which all fell that very week, simply unbearable.

Did you know?

Renal cancer is incurable.

It is extremely difficult to detect.

It has so few symptoms that it has to spread to a critical stage before diagnosis.

The only solace to patients and their families comes from drugs which at present can only prolong the inevitable loss of life.

What am I doing about it?

In memory of my aunt I will be taking part in the 2014 Virgin London Marathon, a 26 mile gruelling challenge to raise money and awareness for Renal Cancer.

What can you do about it?

Please donate generously to the Renal Cancer Research Fund to help raise funds which will be invested into Renal Cancer research projects in the hope that one day a family won’t have to go through the torment of being told their loved ones only have a few months to live. Let’s pray that one day we do find a cure for Renal Cancer.

About the charity

The Renal Cancer Research Fund was set up in 2011 by kidney cancer survivor, Christy Watson and her sister Gemma Swankie. The treatment for kidney cancer is normally sit, wait to see if it comes back. If the cancer does spread in the body there is no cure. Help us raise money to find that cure!
