Story
This is the fourth annual big walking effort from diminutive charity fundraising star Jonjo Heuerman and my third year of participation. Jonjo sadly lost his grandmother to bowel cancer, which happened to be the same illness that claimed the life of one of his heroes - Bobby Moore. So he, and his family have gathered together a big proportion of the West Ham United community to walk on the anniversary of Bobby Moore's death to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research.
In 2012 I walked with him from Wembley Stadium to Upton Park - 26 miles over three days.
In 2013 I went from Loftus Road to Upton Park - a whole 13 mile stretch, and I was pleased to have been accompanied by one other QPR fans for the whole journey and we met up with a another West Ham fan making his own journey from the Den, as part of a big football tag team event including all 92 English league clubs right across the country.
This year Jonjo intends to dribble a football from Roots Hall, the home of Southend United - for 50 miles over 5 days to Upton Park. I will be joining him for a minimum of the first and last days (a total of 22 miles).
I will then make my way to the Valley for QPR's away fixture against Charlton Athletic on Saturday 22nd February.
I'm sure that the importance of the work done by Cancer Research is not in question in the slightest in your mind, nor is the significance of the efforts of Jonjo, his family and football fans from all over Europe who've got together to support him. Whether and how much you can spare to donate, while your only consideration, is nonetheless a very important one, but know that whatever donation you make will be enormously appreciated, not just by Jonjo and myself, but by anyone who ever faces Cancer affecting themselves or people they care about.
If you do wish to give financial support, you have two options. You can either make a donation here on this page, or alternatively, I am making a pledge that if have sold 200 or more copies of the album "Don't Buy The Sun" by my band Platonic Curry - currently available for pre-order here: by the time the walk is finished, I will donate an extra pound per sale - that's a minimum of £200 if the target is met.
