Event: London Marathon 2023, on 23 April 2023
We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

In April 2023, I will be running the London Marathon and raising money for Alzheimer’s Research. They are the UK’s leading dementia research charity, their mission is to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025. I hope to support them in doing so. In 2019, research showed that 1 in every 14 of the population aged over 65 had dementia within the UK and this number is rising. Many of us have been touched in some way by this awful disease…

My motivation:

I will be running for my nan who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2018. Although we have witnessed a decline in her behavioural, social skills and ability to function independently, there are still moments she is the same person she has always been. I want to run for a charity that is dedicated to researching ways in which we can combat a truly heartbreaking disease.

Training and running the London marathon will challenge me both mentally and physically, yet it’s incomparable to the pain dementia causes both the individual suffering and the surrounding family. I hope I can raise as much support as possible for a cause very close to my heart.
