Story
Over Leave Weekend, I will be attempting to swim the Channel as part of a four-person relay team. We will start in Dover and swim continuously, one at a time, for an hour at a time, until we reach France (wherever the tide takes us) – 21 miles or so later. We will follow the strict rules and conditions of the Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation (which means no wetsuits!) as we cross one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, with just our support boat for comfort.
I will be raising money for The Meath, which is a wonderful Godalming-based specialist care home, supporting adults who live with complex epilepsy, disabilities and complex care needs to live as independently as possible. In addition to providing specialist residential care, they also provide a supported living service and welcome day clients to their social enterprises. The Meath recognises ability and is committed to enabling the people they support to lead a fulfilled life.
Like many residential properties, the rising cost of living will challenge The Meath this winter, and the money raised from our swim will go a little way towards helping them continue to offer support to these vulnerable people.
2022 marks 130 years of The Meath Epilepsy Charity. This year, Saunderites will be supporting The Meath Challenge 1:3:0 to help this wonderful charity to sustain their vital and life enriching care for another 130 years! Please be assured that any money you are able to donate will make a genuine and positive difference to the lives of the very special people they support.
Thank you!
