Story
Sasha and Lucy are two friends who have a common interest in helping others, are passionate about life and love a challenge.
They are embarking on a walk/jog half Marathon from Waterloo to Putney and back on the 20th June. They will be raising much needed funds for Age UK Bexley.
Sasha has worked as the volunteer coordinator for Age UK since October 2019 she understands the current pressures on the charity sector especially affecting small charities. Sasha knows the valuable work both staff and volunteers have been doing to support those and wants to ensure this is able to continue.
Dementia in particular is very close to Lucy’s heart as she lost her beloved Nan as well as other people close to her. She knows what it is like to live through them tough times and thinks it’s important to give back where she can to many families and older people that are needing the support of Age UK services country wide. Currently Lucy is experiencing how difficult it is to support an older person, she is currently supporting several family members who are having to self isolate. Lucy is conscious that there will be many people in the same position but are not fortunate enough to have anyone to help and may need to access community services to be able to survive.
During the Covid 19 Crisis the charity has had to operate on 50% less of their traditional revenues due to the closure of some services.
Services continue to support people throughout the borough but this can only be continued through ensuring the charity has the funds to do this.
