Story
Reached 72% of my target! Thank you so much to alllaaa y'allll that donated! #Malawi2014
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am going to Malawi for 10 weeks on January 16th 2014 to focus on projects for youth development.
My target for fundraising is £800 by January 6th, but this isn't a limit ..the more the better! All donations go towards the charity Latitude Global Volunteering in order for them to continue this programme and amazing oppurtunity, called the International Citizen Service (ICS).
I have always wanted to get myself involved in volunteering overseas since I was a tod, however career planning took over most of my recent years! In my 2nd year of University, I came across ICS when their representatives had come to the Uni's job fair. I spoke to them (a lot more than I did any other stall at the fair!!) and after I heard all their incredible stories, I was adamant that I would do it someday.
After finishing University, I planned that I would have a year out and make the most of it. I then remembered ICS and got applying. Before I knew it, I was invited to their interview day and soon after I was accepted to join them on their journey to Malawi for January 2014. I was ecstatic and it didn't sink in for a while, it all happened so fast!! Now I am here, fundraising and gaining support from all my family and friends to take on an experience of a lifetime!!
This oppurtunity means a lot to me and the projects that I and my fellow volunteers will face out there mean even more. Projects will involve things like raising HIV/AIDS awareness, enhancing literacy, sporting events and so forth. I will be living with a host family and I will be working and helping people from all types of backgrounds. I will experience cultural differences and true hardship. I plan to fully immerse myself into the way of living in Malawi and make every effort to make a positive change.
So I ask you all to help me make a change and contribute to the donations for Latitude to continue the ICS programme. This programe is running for all the right reasons and the more we fundraise, the more people that can go to places like Malawi and battle those appalling issues. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.
