Story
My school friends and I are completing a combined 2100 miles during March, to mark Down Syndrome awareness day on 21st March. The aim is to run, walk or cycle a distance of 21 miles (or more) during March and help to raise money for such an important cause.
Every week until March 21st, Gigi and I will complete at least 21 miles, either by walking, cycling or running (probably G running and me waddling but I’ll try my best!!), in order to help achieve the collective 2100 mile target. Perhaps even a 21k if we can make it, towards the end of the month!
Why?
From the very early days at pre prep, I met one of my closest and oldest friends - Matilda. Matilda has the most gorgeous sister, Lydia. Lyds is fun-loving, cheeky and can always guarantee to bring a smile to your face. A total ray of sunshine, with a keen desire to bake (esp with the girls on zoom!). There’s something very special about Lyds. While most babies are born with 46 chromosomes, Lydia has an extra copy of chromosome 21, meaning she has Down Syndrome. Lydia is our inspiration behind raising money for such an important charity. Downright Excellent support children with DS with a variety of vital services across London. These services are life changing to both the children and their families, enabling them with the skills and communication to live full and happy lives - because shouldn’t we all?
Every pound we raise will go directly to the provision of essential services to ensure people with DS live a fulfilled and happy life, full of words, full of life skills, and full of love.
Thank you so much,
Sara & Gigi xo
