Thank you so much for your donation to my page!
I am so proud to be running the 2025 London Marathon in aid of the Spinal Injuries Association, and in memory of my good friend’s mum, Peggy, who very sadly passed away in May 2024.
16 years ago Peggy, was involved in a serious road traffic accident, which tragically left her paralysed from the chest down. Her neck was broken, and her nerves were severed which meant she was never able to walk again.
Peggy spent the best part of the year in various hospitals following the crash, and underwent numerous surgeries on her broken neck, as well her head.
Every day is a challenge for an individual with a spinal cord injury. In Peggy’s case, she was entirely reliant on a care team for the rest of her life, as she was unable to use her hands properly. Her team supported her with everything you can imagine, from basic care needs such as washing, showering, toileting, to help with eating and drinking, and being hoisted in and out of bed.
People living their lives with spinal cord injuries face many of these daily challenges, and can become more susceptible to many other health problems such as infections, breathing difficulties and pressure sores.
The Spinal Injuries Association’s aim is to reach everyone with a spinal cord injury, to tackle whatever barriers they face, and to connect them to all the help and support they need to flourish in their lives, in the way they want and choose.
Every two hours, a person’s life is changed when they sustain a spinal cord injury. Their world – and that of their family – is turned upside-down. Spinal cord injury can be caused by accidents, illnesses and some health conditions.
The Spinal Injuries Association’s holistic approach to supporting people who are spinal cord injured and their loved ones means they provide the time, expertise and connections essential to making pathways towards a fulfilled life.
This is why I will be running the 2025 London Marathon, to raise much needed funds for the Spinal Injuries Association, and for people like Peggy.
