Derek and his family didnt know that he was born with Muscular Dystrophy, let alone a very rare form of MD called myoadenylate deaminase deficiency. It wasnt until after high school that Derek began to receive therapeutic services to help him address his complex medical issues. He was a young adult when he began to exhibit more alarming health concerns that prompted the family doctor to do further testing. In addition to having MD, specialists determined that Derek has autism. Today, Derek lives a very active and vibrant life pursuing a career as a DJ, participating as an athlete for Special Olympics, and volunteering in the community. DDS provides In-Home and Community Base Services for Derek and gives him the support that he needs to live actively in his community.
