Story
I am running the London marathon!!!! (omg)
I'm running for Ovarian Cancer specifically because I have witnessed the effects of the Brca1 gene on my partner's life and family members lives and wish to make an effort to contribute to more research in this area. The gene particularly raises the chances of breast and ovarian cancer in Brac1 carriers. After sadly losing Rachel's auntie Angela and watching my partner Rachel herself deliberate with decisions that effect her own future whilst living with the gene, it was an easy choice when considering which charity to raise the money for. Since making my decision to run for Ovarian, both my mum and dad have grappled the with physical and emotional hardship of cancer and with the help of amazing medical care have felt supported and able in their recoveries, which as a family, we are all deeply grateful for. Running for a cancer charity means more to me now than ever before. I hope you will support me on my run in any way you can so we can find a small way to give something back and help move some more research forwards!
Thank you x
Some more info below specifically on information on Ovarian Cancer:
Ovarian cancer is the UKs most deadly gynaecological disease claiming a womans life every two hours. In fact, diseases like breast cancer had better survival rates five decades ago than ovarian cancer does in 2019.Were determined to do something about this. To take action and make ovarian cancer a survivable disease. Raising awareness of its symptoms amongst the public and healthcare professionals is how we make the quickest impact. Scientific research is how we make the biggest impact. Were committed to funding research to accelerate progress in three main areas: prevention, diagnosis and treatment. And while our scientists are busy in the lab, were on the ground campaigning for change and raising awareness of the disease, so that every woman and healthcare professional knows the signs to look out for.Together, these priorities will help women survive ovarian cancer.Join us on our mission today. Help us accelerate the rate of progress.
