Story

***UPDATE*** 1 week to go to reach £3k and see a wet shaved head! Hair dressers booked for 9am on the 1st Dec, any donations received after will still be received with much appreciation and many thanks but will be too late for the Richard O'Brien look.***END OF UPDATE***

Welcome to my Headshave Fundraising Attempt page!!

Stating the obvious alert: most of us know or will know someone affected by cancer or even experience it first-hand at some point in our lives. So, I wanted to try to do my bit to help support in a little way and try to raise some money to help fund crucial research...and what better way than a classic head shave!!

I would love for all contributions to go to Breast Cancer Now, and that's where all money donated to this JustGiving page will go, but to give you a "twofer" bang for your buck, I will not be setting target amounts per length or grade of shave...the whole lot will be coming off in a oner and will be donated to the Little Princess Trust to -hopefully- be turned into a wig!

So I will repeat, your contribution will be helping not just one, but TWO amazing charities - how good does that feel?

Now for the clincher, as I am denying you the stage-by-stage progress of a traditional head shave, if enough funds are raised, I will go all in and wet shave my head - but it comes at a price exceeding £3,000.

That's right, I don't really want to wet shave my head, hence the potentially unattainable target, BUT, I will absolutely go through with the wet shave if we exceed 3k and don't just stop if we do in fact hit that target! My thinking is pockets may be deeper if I commit to do something I’m not so keen on, so this is my equivalent of a marathon (anyone who knows me knows a marathon certainly ain’t happening) – so I propose no stylish Furiosa look for me, I’m talking full on Right Said Fred chic if we exceed target. I’m not on social media (at least I haven’t logged into Facebook for years, is it even called Facebook anymore?) so please share share share the link to this JustGiving page with everyone you know!

More detail on the charities:

Breast Cancer Now is a charity that invests in world-class research (currently funding 80 cutting-edge projects worth just over £26million) as a well as keeping a focus on supporting those affected by and generating awareness of breast cancer (here I would like to mention The Lavender Trust which is a subgroup within Breast Cancer Now which specifically supports under 45year olds diagnosed with breast cancer).

Your donation will go to the area in Breast Cancer Now where support is needed the most, but to give a frame of reference for the difference your contribution will make:

£5 could…give 25 people a copy of our After Breast Cancer Treatment guide. Filled with information about how you might feel after treatment, how breast cancer could return and how to be breast and body aware, this guide is a lifeline for people readjusting to everyday life.

£15 could…keep our Becca app running for three days. Becca offers tips and advice in bite-sized chunks to people affected by breast cancer, with information on side effects and healthy living, to stories from other women who’ve been diagnosed too.

£35 could…help pay for half an hour of a Someone Like Me call. Someone Like Me connects people with breast cancer with someone else with a similar experience to them, letting them talk to somebody who really understands what they’re going through.

£100 could…mean we can explain to 300 people how breast cancer is treated through our Treating Primary Breast Cancer booklet. This guide tells people what treatments they might have, and talks about what happens next once they've had a diagnosis.

The Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other conditions. It costs the charity £550 to provide a real hair wig free of charge, so if you are feeling extra generous, please check out their site https://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/ to make an additional donation to the Little Princess charity as well.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, now please donate!
