Story
Read about my progress on my blog.
"All the best ideas are stolen..." is a phrase I've heard an awful lot working in the radio industry. But it does seem to be true. Thomas Edison, Alexander Grahem Bell, even Einstein were all guilty of, err, borrowing other people's ideas.
In May this year I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease after slowly becoming more and more ill for months. By the time I saw a decent consultant (a dead ringer of Richard from Pointless), I was pretty unwell and was bed-bound for a few months - subject to a fate worse than death - wall-to-wall daytime TV in the shape of Jeremy Kyle. Slowly I got back on my feet after a few complications, and started swimming every day to build up my strength. I saw a poster in the leisure centre for The Aspire Channel Swim, where you swim the distance of the channel to raise money for people with spinal cord injury. So I decided to do it, but for Crohns and Collitus UK, a charity that is really helping in developing treatment for people like me. So, call me a thief, tell me I'm lazy for not coming up with the next mega-cake-sale-on-the-top-of-mount-everest-whilst-hopping-a-marathon-extravaganza... but whatever you do, please sponsor me.
The swim will take place between 29 September - 22 December.
I'll be blogging/podcasting my face off to keep you updated - so make sure you visit my blog http://thatgirlontheradio.wordpress.com/ ... You can also follow me on twitter: @_sarahlouie
