Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money in memory of Steve Wilson, however, I never actually met him. I met Steve's wife and son, Natalie and Ed, not long after Steve had died. Natalie and I have since become great friends and this is a way for me to do something for her, Ed and all of Steve's family and friends. By all accounts he was an amazing person and greatly missed.
Some words from Natalie to describe Steve's condition: Steve was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) when he was 39. DCM is where one of the ventricles of the heart is dilated and therefore doesn't pump so well. Cardiomyopathy can be hereditary or can be caused by a simple virus. People with Cardiomyopathy have a tendency to develop fatal abnormal heart rhythms which can lead to sudden death. It is the biggest killer of under 35s. He had a defibrillator implanted and was on a range of tablets to help improve the function of his heart, we used to joke if we shook him he'd rattle! Steve lead a happy, unencumbered life post diagnoses for the next 5 years until he started to get these potentially fatal heart rhythms which would cause him to lose consciousness. On Sept 10th 2011, soon after his 44th birthday, Steve suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away.
