Story
Hello everyone
First of all thanks for visitng my fundraising page! To most of you I'm sure its a massive shock that I'm actually running at all?! But yes yes, this is no lie...I plan to run the Leeds Half Marathon in May 2009 in order to raise money for Soft Power Education.
They are a British charity based in Uganda, dedicated to improve quality of life through the power of education. By equiping people with the skills and resources needed to reduce dependacy on aid, the poverty cycle can be broken. Soft Power Education acheive this by:
1. Refurbishing primary schools
2. Building Education Centres
3. Running Community Development Programmes
4. Creating partnerships leading to conservation of the classroom
So im running a gruelling 13 miles through Leeds, in the hope that through kind donations I'll be in Uganda this summer, helping these goals be implemented. With a group of students from Leeds Uiversity and the Soft Power charity, I will be helping with hands on labour to build a school in a Ugandan village. And to top it off, for each classroom we build, the Ugandan government will supply a teacher!
Each person involved in the project has to raise £500 and our collective fundraising will be used to buy the building materials and to pay the wages of the Ugandan builders that work with us.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Soft Power Education gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Every penny is hugely appreciated.
Thankyou,
Sarah x
