Here is a a little bit of info about the charity itself:-

.

There are over 45,000 deaf children living in the UK.

90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents with little or no experience of deafness or knowledge of how to communicate with a deaf person.

40% of deaf children have additional needs.

Four babies are born deaf every day.

Many families struggle to communicate effectively with their deaf child.

Many deaf children struggle to communicate with their immediate family, and develop language at a slower rate than their hearing peers.

Given the right support there is no reason for any deaf child to develop language at a slower rate than a hearing child with similar abilities.

Deafness is not a learning disability. There is no reason why the majority of deaf children should achieve any less than hearing children.

Deaf children are at far higher risk of developing mental illness than their hearing peers.

Deaf children need to be able to communicate effectively, access information and influence the world around them by any appropriate method whether through sign language, oral communication or a combination of approaches.

Here is where your money goes:-

£10 can provide a deaf awareness workshop for a parent from a refugee family in Croatia, providing them with vital information about all areas of childhood deafness.

£20 can provide a sign language training course for a parent in rural Ghana to enable them to effectively communicate with their deaf child for the first time.

£50 can provide 100 copies of a Mongolian Sign Language CD Rom which can be provided to schools and training centres across Mongolia to develop their sign language skills in the absence of trained teachers of the deaf

£100 can pay for 1 week's salary for a Community Support Worker to work with 200 families in rural Namibia helping parents to support each other by establishing parents groups that provide information and support to the parents of newly diagnosed deaf children.

£100 can pay for 30 families to attend a workshop with local government officials in Kazakhstan to ensure that deaf children receive the services they deserve
