Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 13th September 2015 I will be running 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields in the Great North Run. As some of you will know, I'm not a big fan of running (unless it is around an astroturf pitch chasing a small plastic ball) and 13.1 miles is certainly further than I have ever run before. Having lived on Tyneside for 7 years I am looking forward to returning to the North East and running part of my old journey to work!
I have chosen to raise money for 2 different causes. The first is the Alzheimer's Society: I have a personal connection with the disease as both my grandmothers had it and I also look after patients with dementia on a daily basis at work. I'm sure most of you will know someone affected by this increasingly common disease.
The second cause is The Friends of Viera Gray House, a home for the frail elderly in South West London which looked after both of my grandmothers in their final months. The money I raise will go to funding a regular music therapist for the residents. This is a source of huge enjoyment for the residents and is funded purely by charitable donations. Currently they are only able to pay for this to happen every fortnight and I am hoping that the money I raise can make it weekly. Unfortunately I am not able to collect money through justgiving.com for Viera Gray House so if you would like to split your donation between the 2 causes or donate just to this cause please contact me directly at smgowing2112@gmail.com.
As part of my training I am running the British 10k in London on 12th July which I'm looking forward to, and will give me a good idea of how my training is going!
Thank you in advance for your support.
