Story

Burns injuries - as a general rule if your age and your percentage of burns total more than 100 your chances of survival are extremely slim. My fathers total was 128.

Last October my father was involved in a serious industrial accident, receiving 65% burns to the majority of his body. He spent three months in a specialist burns intensive care unit under going numerous skin grafts and fighting life  threatening infections. He was then transferred to a neurological rehabilitation centre where he spent two months regaining his basic day to day skills, eg walking, using a knife and fork.

From the day of the accident my father has received exceptional care and support from these dedicated specialist units. Without this specialist care, its fair to say my father wouldn't be here today.

As a way of saying thank you, I together with nine of my colleagues at Armstrong Watson, Leeds, have entered the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10k corporate challenge to raise funds for these two specialist units at Pinderfield General Hospital, Wakefield.

About the charity

Our mission is to improve patient care across Dewsbury, Pontefract and Wakefield either directly with patients or indirectly via staff. We do this by enhancing the services provided by the Trust and funding additional items of expenditure, which would not otherwise be funded by the NHS.
