I am running the Big Sur International Marathon on 27 April 2008. This is run on the famous and scenic Highway 1 in California, with he sea on one side and the mountains on the other. The photo shows me training on just part of the route while on holiday there last year, which is when the idea to do the race was born!

I've never done anything quite like this before, but I thought I'd try an amazing challenge before I turn 50 (gulp) later this year. I've been training hard on the hilly lanes of Derbyshire all winter and I think I'm fit and ready to take part. I stress 'take part' not 'race' as I intend to run at a leisurely pace, enjoy the spectacular scenery and not attempt to break any world records.
