We support people affected by bipolar to improve understanding & raise awareness

Story

A group of my friends/family and I have all committed to mainly run, but also walk or cycle 100 miles each for the month of January. We all range in age, fitness and health but are all up for the challenge! There will be 11 of us in total taking part - myself (Sarah), my Mum (Shona), my Dad (Steve), my sister (Claire), my boyfriend (Scott), my sisters boyfriend (Cody), my Auntie (Mags), my friends Joanna and Laura and my Dads friend (Tracey). We hope to raise a target of £1000 for Bipolar Scotland.

Bipolar Scotland are Scotland’s only ‘bipolar-specific’ organisation and have 25 years’ experience of minimising the impact of bipolar through Self-Management Training (SMT) courses and Self-Help Support Groups. Covid has meant that there are thousands of people in Scotland currently going without any support, the NHS is under massive strain and therefore there are not enough appointments with local NHS psychiatrists to go around. Bipolar Scotland, with funding, can provide those in need with support and help.

Suffering from Bipolar Disorder myself and knowing the devastating impact it can have, I can only imagine how difficult it must be with little to no support. I have struggled so much this year, as you can see from the cover picture, but I am getting better slowly but surely. Thankfully, I have a very supportive family and friends around me (as you can see from those you are doing this challenge with me!) but I absolutely know that this is not the case with everyone. If this fundraiser can help, even a handful of people, I will be over the moon, but the more the better.

These donations could be the thing that stops someone from feeling alone, feeling high and out of control without knowing why or feeling low and taking their own life. All donations are all so important, no matter how big or how little, so thank you so much & wish us luck!

P.S. We will all be tracking via Strava - feel free to give us each a follow and some kudos on the app!
