Story
In January 2009 my much adored Mother-in-law Pam was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The same week that Pam began her treatment - so I began to run. This is not something that I had done for a number of years! I vowed that week I would work towards a London Marathon and represent a charity in her honour. An element of this was selfish on my part - being as we live some distance away from Pam being on the end of the telephone is not enough and you feel you need to do more - want to do more.
The journey's we have both experienced over this year have been very different: Mine a journey of choice - Mum's one of neccessity.
Recent months have seen Mum deal with an unrelenting timetable of treatments, appointments and daily visit from the nurse. In my whole life I have never known somebody to face everyday with optimism and the determination to get through whatever it takes to get over this terrible, shocking illness.
In the summer Mum promised 'I wont give up. I have to much to live for' And never was a truer word spoken, with a wonderful family that have pulled together to give Mum all the love and support she could ever need. At this time I can say it is a family I am proud to be a part of. The strength that I believe this has given to Mum has been crucial in her fight.
Today Mum had a really good day and continues her fight despite further progression of the cancer.
Breast Cancer Care is the charity that all donations made for my marathon will go to. The vision of the charity is; 'We want every person affected by breast cancer to get the best treatment, information and support.'
This is a way I can give something back in recognition of all the help and support that Mum has received. A main focus of Breast Cancer Care is to promote the importance of early detection. Knowledge is a wonderful thing whether we are young or older - one day it could just save our lives!
Any donations you give will really make a difference for this worthwhile cause!!!
