Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Some of you may know that Richard, my lovely husband, had a heart attack 12 years ago having cycled from London to Brighton for the Britsh Heat Foundation. How ironic. For the families of those who experience a heart attack it can be terrifying. Richard had his in front of me and we'd only been married two years. I really thought I was going to lose him. Heart attacks are always a shock. They come out of the blue. Richard's lifestyle just didn't fit with this type of illness either. He didn't smoke, barely drank, wasn't overweight and was only 54 so it was even more alarming. However, he made a fantastic recovery and since then has ridden another London to Brighton event for the BHF and run a marathon so a heart attack need not be the end of an active life.
However for some people heart attacks are lifechanging events that DO end their active lives. The BHF is aiming to raise £50m in the next decade for research into repairing hearts throught their Mending Broken Hearts campaign. We were fortunate and didn't need this but many young people suffer heart attacks and they and their families WILL need the help of this pioneering work.
