What would compel a forty year old mum to run her first marathon?!?
Sadly, in the last two years I lost two dear friends, both before they reached the forty milestone. Firstly, my childhood sweetheart Jonathan Collins to bowel cancer and just recently my fellow KPMG Partner and work buddy, Marty Stephens, in a tragic accident. It was Marty’s words about how he’d done a marathon himself with very little training (obviously, he smashed it) that were echoing in my ears when I saw the work charity Marie Curie had a place available. And it was thinking of how brutal end of life care can be that pushed me over the line (excuse the pun) to try and raise these funds in the name of Jonathan and the many other people who have been, and will be, affected by terminal diseases and benefit from the care offered by Marie Curie.
I have dusted off the running shoes and joined the early morning runners of south london in readiness. This is going to be very tough for me and I may not do a fast time like Marty but I’m determined to get round and do my best!
