Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hello! Sarah Walker here :) I have enrolled on a 45 mile, 5 day trek of the Grand Canyon scheduled for 8th October 2016, and my younger sister Clare Walker will be joining me. Over the next 18 months we will be fundraising for Parkinson's UK in honour of our Great Uncle Brian Greenwood who suffers with Parkinson's and has done for many years. I am also personally completing this trek to raise as much money I can in order to try to help and support those in my local community who have Parkinson's and also some of the parents and grandparents of many of my loved ones and friends.
OUR CHALLENGE: To fundraise at LEAST £4050 EACH for Parkinson's UK, and to train for at least 16 weeks in order to embark on a gruelling 5 day trek of the Grand Canyon in October 2016, with others fundraising for other charities.
I'm looking forward to embarking on this adventure. Since registering I have been volunteering with my local Parkinson's UK support branch who are from the Long Eaton district and have met a great many very lovely new friends through events and monthly meetings http://www.parkinsonslongeaton.org.uk/ I have also joined the Parkinson's UK online community, found at http://www.parkinsons.org.uk
I have started up a blog on Wordpress to express my thoughts on fundraising, and update those interested to follow on our efforts, hopefully with lots of fun and interesting photos and ponderings! http://ourfundraisingadventure.wordpress.com/ Please bookmark, favourite, visit regularly, and join in with any fun you can!
At present Clare and I have LOTS of ideas so please keep an eye out. My initial ideas for me personally have been to make as MUCH use of all forms of social media, local media, national media and my creativity to engage and reach out to as MANY people as possible. I also plan to use another of my strengths (MY LOVE FOR EXERCISE) in my fundraising attempt, and am going to try to involve my local gym AND to run a half marathon in both 2015 and 2016. Any other ideas greatly appreciated.
