Story
In November 2013 my partner Jess' mam fell seriously ill with sepsis, a life-threatening condition. She was in a coma, had multiple organ failure, poison infecting all of her body and was only kept alive by hospital machines.
Sepsis is one of the biggest killers in the UK, killing 37,000 people a year, more than lung cancer and more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined. Despite this there is little awareness of this life threatening condition. The UK Sepsis Trust is a registered charity that want to help the way our healthcare system deals with sepsis.
Thanks to the amazing work of the North Tyneside ITU, Jan survived after been so close to passing away. The team of staff were fantastic in saving Jan whilst providing unbelievable support to Jan's family and friends.
The staff highlighted to us all the severity of this condition and informed us of the UK Sepsis Trust which strives to raise awareness of sepsis, as well as providing support to family and friends that have suffered as a result of this condition. For more information for UK Sepsis Trust have a little look on their webpage http://www.sepsistrust.org.
I will be running the Great North Run for the charity and hope to raise at least £500, any donations towards this would be greatly received! Jess and her friend Mick will also be running but are raising money for the North Tyneside ITU, so that as a team we can raise money for two great causes!
Thanks people! #jansstory
