Story
Thanks for visiting my Just Giving page. I will be running my first full marathon on October 16th to raise money for The Listening Place.
The Listening Place offers ongoing support for people who feel suicidal, in the form of free face-to-face, non-judgemental sessions, for as long as a person needs them. The volunteers are highly-trained to support those who feel like life is no longer worth living. A person can self-refer for sessions, without any notes from a doctor. It is a truly unique place, offering assistance to those in need, without the usual waiting lists people with mental health issues are used to experiencing when accessing treatment. It is based in London.
A £250 donation will give one individual the support they need to significantly reduce their suicidal feelings, and I’d like to try and raise £1000 to help four people with life changing support.
I know money is tight right now, so if you can’t afford to donate at this time, please do read a little about the place. Suicide is such a difficult topic to talk about with a loved one, but knowing this service exists might help someone you know in the future.
About The Listening Place
Every day 18 people in the UK take their own life. And suicide in the UK is increasing, with deaths by suicide rising by almost 12% in 2018, a 16 year high. Despite this, effective, ongoing suicide support is hard to find. The Listening Place meets this need through free, face-to-face, non-judgemental, confidential suicide support. Support is delivered by highly-trained volunteers and continues for as long as someone needs. We have a long-term plan to expand across London and eventually offer support to every suicidal person in the capital.
