Story
Having rashly decided that I needed a challenge this year I find myself with a place to run the London Marathon on 2nd October 2022 in support of the charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK.
In the UK, it is estimated that 300,000 people suffer from IBD (Crohn’s and Colitis). This roughly equates to 1 in every 210 people.
As a family we have first-hand experience of both of these diseases, and have seen, and continue to see the impact they have.
Crohn’s and Colitis are both lifelong conditions that can be unpredictable. An individual is likely to have periods of good health, known as remission, and other times when the condition is active, known as flare-ups or relapses. Right now there is no cure for Crohn’s and Colitis, but medicines and sometimes surgery can keep people feeling well for long periods of time.
From the start, we were told that there is a limited range of drugs ‘in the cupboard’ with some drugs causing significant side effects and therefore not suitable for people to use.
With your help I am hoping to raise money to support the charity's aims of improving diagnosis, raising awareness and continuing research in to treatments, and ultimately a cure for Crohn’s and Colitis.
Thank you for taking the time to read my 'story'.
