Story
Twelve years ago my mum got meningococcal septicemia. She is still suffering the consequences (though, as some of you well know, she never complains). It is a horrendous disease and many people are not lucky enough to survive it at all. We still don't really know what causes some people to get meningitis and not others and while there is a great deal of research going on, we still have no vaccination against it. So, anything I can do to raise money to help progress the research is, in my opinion, worth doing.
Most of you will associate Nepal with trekking. I'm not sure why I've agreed to cycle my way around it but the one thing I have been told is that it will be incredibly challenging. We will spend most of the day in the saddle and at night will be staying in fairly basic accommodation (including tents!). And despite the fact that I usually love the food from that part of the world, I'm told that most of the time we will be eating a very repetitive diet of dahl, dahl and more dahl. The days will be hot and the nights will be cold. It's daunting but I'm really looking forward to my first view of the Annapurna range!
I have paid for the whole trip myself so anybody who sponsors me can be assured that every penny they donate will go to the Meningitis Research Foundation. I can't thank you enough if you are one of those people - just know that it is for a very worthy cause.
