Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am doing a sky dive in honour of my late mother, Elizabeth Rose Sasin to
raise much needed funds for St Raphael's Hospice. I am terrified and hope
the weather conditions will be good and that the jump goes as smooth as
possible.
The reason I am jumping for St Raphael's, as it meant so much to mum when she was alive. It gave her great comfort, friendship and escapism. Mum was very fortunate to attend a weekly arts and crafts session in the Jubilee Centre.
This weekly activity meant she was able to leave the house, she was collected
from home, by a volunteer, attend the session, have a light delicious lunch.
All of this was free and gave her the opportunity to developed her artistic
side. During her visit she would be able to see health professionals, and if
she booked in advance, the use of the therapeutic Jacuzzi bath. When people get ill doing simple tasks like bathing become so much more complicated. At the end of her session another volunteer would bring her home, these few hours meant so much to her. She was with other like minded people and it gave her the opportunity to master her artistic side. I never met her art tutor, but thanks to you, me and my sister have some lovely mementos. These items are some of the most treasured possessions we both have. Each week I would be excited to see what she had created. The weekly session meant so much to her as it provided her with escapism. I would never really be able to really understand how she felt but, those precious few hours, meant everything to her.
Throughout mum's illness St Raphael's loaned her a fantastic collapsible
lightweight wheelchair. The wheelchair was brilliant and enabled us as a family to go out and about. We had some wonderful days out in that wheelchair.
Mum was also paired with a wonderful local lady who would come to see her weekly at home with the 'friend of the hospice' service (another volunteer). The charity is really small and it these small acts of kindness of local people, offering skills and time so the hospice can provide these wonderful services.
Unfortunately I do not live local, or able to offer regular time, however I can take on challenges to raise much needed funds so the hospice can continue to provide the excellent support and care to people living with illness but also support loved ones affected.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my page. Thank you also if you kindly have donated any money. This will mean so much for my family but also for those currently accessing the wonderful services they offer the local community.
