I've set myself a challenge to walk 10,000 steps every day for a month. I'm taking a step towards a brighter future for donkeys who are abused, neglected or abandoned. Donkeys like Lottie, one of The Flicka Foundation's rescues.
Lottie spent most of her life working in Croatia until she was sent via the UK for meat. There she was 'saved' and spent many more miserable years as an unlicensed beach donkey forced to give rides to holiday makers. She was made to walk every day, up and down the beach, carrying tourists - even when she was also carrying a foal. Thankfully for Lottie, The Flicka Foundation was able to rescue her and bring her to their peaceful sanctuary in Cornwall, where she and her son Olly, are free to do as much or as little as they want.
Lottie is one of the lucky ones. The sanctuary cares for over 100 donkeys, horses and mules all rescued from abuse, neglect and abandonment. Feed alone costs over £60,000 a year, before health care, vet, farrier and dentist costs and
