Story
Sarah and Jeff are running at the Disney Marathon weekend 2023 in honor of the Scott Carter Foundation. Sarah is running the Dopey Challenge (5K, 10K, Half-marathon, and Marathon on four sequential days) and Jeff is running the 10K. The Scott Carter Foundation raises money for children's cancer research in honor of Scott, a 13-year-old boy who died from osteosarcoma. This Foundation is especially near to Sarah's heart since she is a childhood cancer survivor. Sarah was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma when she was 17 years old, just a month into her freshman year of college. After finishing first-line chemotherapy treatments in January 2013, she almost immediately relapsed in February 2013 and underwent further chemotherapy and radiation before achieving a steady remission. Sarah has been cancer-free for over nine years now, during which she received a PhD in Cancer Biology from Stanford and now works in cancer research. Jeff, who has a PhD in Biophysics from Stanford, also works in cancer research, specifically in immunology-focused areas. Please help to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer by donating to the Scott Carter Foundation!

The Scott Carter Foundation is devoted to raising funds for children's cancer research. Scott was a 13-year old boy who died in December 1993 after a courageous three-year battle with bone cancer. He believed that if enough time, energy and money were devoted to children's cancer research, a cure could be found. During the duration of his illness, he put together a remarkable collection of sports and celebrity memorabilia, which was previously on display at the Wide World of Sports. Walt Disney World was one of Scott's favorite places so the foundation decided to become a charity partner with runDisney to raise money and further Scott's dream of finding a cure! Every season, we partner with a few hundred runners, from all over the world, to participate in all runDisney events and raise money for SCF. Because SCF is operated out of the Carter's home by volunteers, almost all money raised goes toward funding research projects. Thank you for joining us as we work together to find a cure!
