Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My Mum and I will be taking part in the Adidas Women's 5k Challenge in London's Hyde Park on 11th September.

We are going to be Autism Angels, raising money for the National Autistic Society (NAS).

This is a charity close to our hearts with my younger Brother, Jonathan, having Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism.

Jonathan is nearly 15 and is so lucky to have been supported within a main stream secondary school.  My parents have had to battle and appeal for special educational needs statements to be granted to help assist Jonathan with his education.

Our aim is to help step up awareness of autism  which is still relatively unknown and misunderstood.

Those with autism can be like my brother, lacking in social and physical skills.  Jonathan is lucky to have a group of close friends at school who support him and accept him for the lovely and caring person he is.  He has been bullied in the past for being "different."

Others with more severe autism may not be able to speak and may find communication nearly impossible.  "Change" can be a difficult thing and may trigger what may appear as a tantrum all because routine is favored but really this is anxiety.

Over 500,000 people in the UK have autism.  Together with their families this makes up over two million people whos lives are touched by autism every single day.

Many of these two million people get nothing like the level of help, support and understanding they need.

Your amazing sponsorship will be used to help fund the NAS key charitable activites including the autism helpline, free education rights service and prospects employment programme for those at school leaving age.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
