Story
I am running the 2023 London Marathon because I want to help Meningitis Research Foundation achieve their goal of a world free from meningitis and septicaemia.
I contracted bacterial meningitis when I was 13 years old, and spent a few days in intensive care, 10 days in hospital and 2 months out of school, but thankfully made a full recovery. My life was saved due to the quick actions of my parents, our local doctors and the hospital staff.
I am running on behalf of Team MRF to highlight the work that the charity does in funding research into the detection, treatment and prevention of meningitis. Having an organisation like MRF that promotes education and awareness around meningitis (and the signs & symptoms) is critical in ensuring lives are saved. I know that such exposure was crucial for all which resulted in a rapid response and treatment.
