Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am completing a 30k coastal hike from Swanage to West Lulworth along the South West coastal path. This route consists of over 1700m of ascent, greater than climbing to the summit of Ben Nevis!
Many of you who know me personally will know that my Brother suffers from mental illness so this is a charity which is particularly close to my heart.
Approximately 1 in 3 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. The statistic which took me by surprise is that 1 in 5 have had suicidal thoughts or made suicidal attempts over their lifetime.
At Blue Square we are tackling the stigma surrounding mental health illnesses with a monthly Time to Talk session. We are breaking down the stigma by discussing different topics each month, from Men’s Mental Health to Education and Suicide and offering further support for our employees. However, we don’t want to stop there. In order to reach our target for the year and help support our chosen charity, the Mind Hike could raise vital money to help people in need.
Reports from both England and Wales suggest that approximately 1 in 8 adults with a mental health problem are currently receiving treatment. £120 could offer a lifeline to eight people in desperate need of support from the Mind legal line. £200 could help keep the Mind Infoline open for 1 hour, helping 35 people. And £300 could support a young person bereaved by suicide to access a 1:1 and group support. Please help me give something back to this wonderful charity who supports and respects those in need.
