Story
So, I thought, having turned 50, I should do something to completely push me out of my comfort zone and be a bit of an adventure…
And, as a Prevent Breast Cancer Ambassador, my role is to look for fundraising opportunities to help support the charity, who’s mantra is Predict. Prevent. Protect, so to do something for them, at the same time, seemed a perfect idea.
And then it got more personal. I have known of those who have had breast cancer, some who have come through it and some sadly, who have not, but it always felt like it was one step removed from me, something that does happen to others.
But then I had a very special friend, who I recently lost
She fought a brave battle, with grit and determination, & a remarkable optimism, right up until the day she died. She did this with a smile on her face… and more often than not. with a glass of Prosecco in hand (see why I liked her?!)
So, here’s to Elaine… and if I actually manage to do this then there will be more than just 1 glass of Prosecco being drunk after I land!! 🥂🍾🥂🍾
For those interested, here is a little more about the charity…
As the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, Prevent Breast Cancer is committed to freeing the world from the disease altogether. Unlike many cancer charities, they’re focused on preventing, rather than curing. Through promoting early diagnosis, screening and lifestyle changes, they believe they can stop the problem before it starts. And being situated at the only breast cancer prevention centre in the UK, they are right at the front-line in the fight against the disease.
