Story
As a business I’ve supported Mellor Country House for many years, and even more years as a family. It is a much-loved local charity that provides a safe, secure, relaxing and uplifting environment to people in need.
When I heard about the devastating impact the Coronavirus pandemic is having on them, I felt compelled to take action.
So on Sunday 10 May, I’ll be doing something dramatic: I’m getting a lockdown headshave courtesy of my husband Matthew. Please note that Matthew has no haircutting experience whatsoever, and while I like short hair, I usually only trust the team at Sherlocks with my 'do!
I’m asking you to sponsor this hair-brained act, because Mellor Country House is worth it!
For many of the people who stay at the house, this break from the hardships of their day-to-day existence can, literally, be a life-saver.
Imagine never having seen a field or farm animals, and then having the chance to come to Mellor for a holiday. Being able to run around outside or learn to ride a bike, and to spend time with a parent actually having a holiday. Or to be a victim of domestic abuse and to be able to relax in the idyllic setting of Mellor Country House.
In these hard times communities need to pull together more than ever before to make sure that the places we treasure - local charities, shops, pubs, restaurants, service providers - are still here when this virus is beaten.
We are stronger together!
More about Mellor Country House and its current situation
Mellor Country House is now closed, but with the majority of its funding dried up and savings rapidly depleting, there are still running costs to cover.
The very popular annual plant sale, which raised around £22,000 last year, has been cancelled. The opportunity for volunteers to sell pies and pints at the Etihad Stadium - which raises around £15,000 - has been cancelled for the foreseeable future.
The situation is desperate to ensure the House can cover their costs until they can reopen and go back to being self sufficient.
Watch it 'live' on my facebook page - Stationery Supplies Marple - at 12 midday on Sunday 10th May!
