Story
Since I heard about this event 4 years ago it's been on my to-do list. It's a great opportunity to raise awareness for people, and their families, who have too often struggled in silence. We need to break the isolation.
The more I share this event with people the more I hear their stories; their pain and hopes. They talk to me about the not so well know aspects of the disease - not just the "forgetfulness". Remaining active is a key way to slow the onset effects of dementia; but a cure is not yet known.
Enjoying new challenges and being with friends is something we should not take for granted; their support when we need it is invaluable. For my friends I'd walk 1,000 miles - this is a small fraction of that but will do more good than walking alone.
