Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, in memory of Nina and Jack, and in aid of all vulnerable children in the UK.
Nina and Jack were born in 1989 and 1990, into what we all assumed was a safe and loving home. They were wonderful, kind, cheeky, happy children; oustanding in their qualities, yet as normal as any other children. And just as entitled to grow up into healthy young adults as any other children.
But Nina and Jack didnt grow up.
They were killed by their father in 1994, aged just 3 and 4 years of age.
Unfortunately, whilst shocking, their murders are not so unusual
On sunday 17th Apri 2011 I rode the Warwick 100 mile cycling sportive to raise money for the NSPCC. It should have been Jacks 21st birthday, and I rode with a heavy heart, but, thanks to many generous donations raised a considerable amount for the NSPCC.
Subsequently friends have chosen to raise money for this incredibly important charity, in memory of Nina and Jack.
At 2250 hrs, 2nd June 2012, I will be running the Droitwich to Powick leg of the REAL relay, and 8000 non-stop relay, following the official route of the Olympic torch.
Please pause for a minute and think of Nina and Jack, and of all the children who are at risk right now. And please consider making a donation to the NSPCC in memory of Nina and Jack, and for the sake of all our children at risk of harm. No donation is too small to make a difference.
On average, every week in England and Wales at least one child is killed at the hands of another person.
On average, 55 children in England and Wales are killed at the hands of another person every year.
While the number of child homicides fluctuates each year, the overall child homicide rate in England and Wales has remained broadly similar since 1997. However, in recent years from 2005/06 the numbers have dipped below 60 for the first time.
Two thirds of children killed at the hands of another person in England and Wales are aged under five.
Infants aged under one are more at risk of being killed at the hands of another person than any other single year age group in England and Wales.
On average, the under ones are 8 times more likely to be killed than older children.
Almost every ten days in England and Wales one child is killed at the hands of their parent. In half (56% on average) of all cases of children killed at the hands of another person, the parent is the principal suspect.
It is not too late to sponsor me for my efforts on 17th April. Every single donation is gratefully received by the NSPCC. Alternatively, please consider sponsoring other members of the Team 'In Memory of Nina and Jack' Every little makes a difference to the most vulnerable members of our society.
