Story
It's been a rocky ride on the fund raising front & also where we are doing the ride. 2021 should have been Kenya but covid scuppered that one. 2022 should have been Sri Lanka but political unrest put paid to that. So, now we are back to Kenya doing the original itinerary.
You probably all know my story but just in case..... When my son was 6 months old I was diagnosed with breast cancer after several trips to the doctor & being told I was too young to have this. It was a traumatic time with dark thoughts of not being able to see my son grow up but through Chemotherapy & radiotherapy we all got through this. 2 years later it came back followed by a double mastectomy. More chemo & radiotherapy followed . So now you are thinking that there's nothing left for the b******d disease to grow in.... wrong! Now it decides to come back in my lymph nodes around an artery. Off we trot to the oncologist again & good old "Dr Death" says that you have 2-3 years to live & pointless with any more treatment. Hmmm, now how do you get on with life after that one? Luckily my surgeon had a crack at removing the tumour & also refers me to a top oncologist at The Marsden. I am trying a new type of chemotheraphy which was tablet based. After several check ups over the years I am given the all clear. I have been totally clear now for 15 years. I have the BRACA gene, ovaries are in the bin so fingers crossed the b******d stays away! The support I had during this time was invaluable & also the changes in research that has now given me my maximum survival chance. Life is about living it to the full, giving back & valuing friends and family. No doubt you have all been touch by cancer, so why not give a little back? I'm doing the hard graft with the cycling 450km in sweltering heat. All you need to do is just get your bank card out & donate. You have the easy bit but it makes a massive difference. Thank you all. Hope I haven't rambled too much!!
