Story
I will be running the 2023 London marathon on 23rd April in memory of my beautiful mum, Ethne, who died from Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in August 2021.
I want to raise as much money as I can for the MND Association to thank them for the incredible practical and emotional support they provided to Mum and me during such a scary time - and help them go on providing that help to others.
MND is a degenerative, neurological disease which is currently incurable.
I have shared many times before how my mum bravely fought MND for nearly 4 years. At the time of writing, it has been 19 months since she passed away.
Running the 2023 London Marathon for me signals hope. Hope that one day soon, through sponsorship and raising much needed funds, we will be able to develop a cure for this awful disease.
There are hundreds of miles to run in training before I toe the line on race day to run the iconic 26.2 mile London course. I remind myself on the hard days, the cold and wet days, the I-am-so-tired days - that I don't have to run. I get to run. And what a privilege that is. Every step that I run is for my mum, as well as for everyone living - fighting – with motor neurone disease.
The MND Association provide crucial services to support people living with MND - from practical things such as rise-recline chairs and hoists - to support via out-reach visitors and helplines. More than that, the MNDA offers community and helps to prevent sufferers and their families from feeling isolated.
I am extremely grateful for any amount you can pledge.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Sarah x
