Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Sarah Gaisford, a former jockey,  left paralysed from the waist down after a  fall during a race at Exeter Racecourse in 2007. Before my accident, I  was a self-confessed equine addict and lived and breathed horses. Altogether I rode 50 point-to-point winners and 14 under Rules, but following my accident I thought my life in the saddle was over.

In 2012 I started riding again and was joined with Richard Pitman and supported by Liberty Trails to ride again on Dartmoor. In January, with the support of Liberty Trails,  I started a fund-raising campaign to raise money for the IJF and  give back to the amazing organisation that has been supporting me since my fall.

After many setbacks including:  breaking my leg in the spring, which meant I had to sit still for four months with a brace on my leg, I got fit enough in less than six weeks to ride ten miles across Dartmoor raising  sponsorship for every mile I completed. And I did it. I rode every step of the way in just over 3 hours with the considerable support of a fantastic team of people who organised the event, walked or rode with me on the day including  former BBC presenter and jockey Richard Pitman, former jockey and stunt rider Derek Laverty, Jimmy Frost, and Hayden Frost  and very many others...

Now I'm setting my sights on returning to Exeter Racecourse on horseback  and riding fall circle around the course where I had my crashing fall before presenting a big fat cheque to John Francome, President of the IJF.   Help me make it the largest amount possible by donating £15 to the IJF to come and join me on the walk around the racecourse.
