Story
Thanks for visiting my page!! I'm fundraising in memory of my beautiful sister Meredith, who passed away at the age of 9 after a brutal battle with APlastic Anemia.
I was only 5 when Meredith passed away, and for a long time I ignorantly wondered why my parents couldn't just move on. As I get older, I become more aware of the depth of loss they must have felt and still feel to this day. Even though many of my memories of Meredith are from her final days, I choose to remember her laughing and playing Barbies with me on the floor, singing and dancing with me in the living room, crawling with me through the cardboard mazes my dad would make. I mourn the loss of what could have been; the life-long friendship we could have shared like I have with my other 3 sisters. My big sister Elizabeth said it best:
"I know that you would have loved to laugh and be silly with me and your other sisters as is the norm when we get together. You belong here. With us. No amount of spirituality will ever convince my heart otherwise. Our family didn't only lose a child. We lost the person that you would have been."
I'm running for Make-a-Wish because not only did they grant my sister's final wish (a computer for the family) but they made her final days as happy as could be. She got to not only meet the cast of 21 jump street (yes that's Johnny Depp!) but was given a ride in producer Stephen Cannell's helicopter. I remember my sister's smile and excitement at this event. Meredith touched his life so much that Stephen also attended her funeral.
September 29th will be the 32nd anniversary of Meredith's passing and I've been inspired by this milestone to make her memory as alive as ever. Please give anything you can to help not only a suffering child, but their heartbroken family. Thanks for reading!
Make-A-Wish UK creates life-changing wishes that revive the childhood that critical illness takes away, bringing light and joy at the darkest of times for a child and their loved ones. But right now, there are 60,000 children in the UK living with a critical condition, and they don't have the resources to be that light for everyone. Your generous support will help them step closer to achieving their vision: to grant a wish to every eligible child. Together, we have the power to light up the darkness.
