Story
Grief camp changed my life when I was twelve years old. I was processing the sudden death of my father two years earlier. The group work, counseling, and community I formed at grief camp grounded me. This camp experience also inspired me to become a social worker, first for children in hospice care, and now as a therapist to those experiencing grief.
This summer life will come full circle because I'll serve as a camp counselor at a grief camp called Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC.
Run by DC's Wendt Center for Loss and Healing, this day camp serves young campers who have experienced recent loss and trauma. Campers will enjoy traditional camp activities as well as grief focused workshops and activities designed to support campers to express themselves and develop bonds with other young people.
As part of my role, I'm also fundraising for the camp to help support the amazing programs and to ensure that there is no cost to campers. Please make a donation
to help me meet my fundraising goal and to help ensure that this critical camp can be provided to campers free of charge.
