Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was first diagnosed with breast cancer when my children were 2 and 3. Two lots of surgery, chemo and radiotherapy followed and the world was flipped upside down. The only memory my boys have of that time are positive ones - of fun and love and shaving mummy’s head. We raised just under £5000 for the Little Princess Trust as well as donating my hair.
Following treatment I decided I must be braver than I thought I was to get through all that and wanted to show my boys (and myself) who I really was. I took myself back to college, did a foundation in Art, got a First Class Honours in Illustration and did my PGCE. Now I teach Year 4 at a lovely school in Herefordshire and ‘my’ children each year include a class of 25-30 who I adore as though they were my own family.
My own boys are older now, 9 and 11 and last week I was, again, diagnosed with breast cancer. I face mastectomy and chemotherapy at the very least this time round and am still awaiting some results to finalise the next steps.
So, whilst I can’t plan too far ahead, I am going to try to run 100k before I start treatment - forgive me for not waiting until October to get started but I am on the clock already and don’t know when treatment will halt the running for a while. But Graham, my lovely husband, best friend and partner in crime for the last 26 years has offered to be my proxy and finish the kilometres if I find myself in hospital sooner rather than later. My boys will be running too, but without pressure to clock up the miles - just to keep fit and keep me company.
So, if you feel as helpless as we do and want to do something practical then here is an opportunity to part with a little bit of cash. If you can’t and funds are tight, that’s ok too - We so understand these are difficult times for everyone - instead please do a random act of kindness for someone, anyone, to honour my belief that kindness rules all.
100k will be done by 23rd October ready for Wear it Pink Day as I know a few people have asked if they can do some fundraising towards this charity for us.
