Last winter and again this year I will volunteer with a night shelter serving people in Wandsworth. I became a volunteer because I regularly walked past homeless people and felt embarrassed and didn't know what to do. The people I have met in the shelters have been great fun, warm and friendly but have come to the shelter after a day where they have been ignored by 90% of people. Many of those I met ended up on the streets through a set of circumstances that could happen to any of us such as loosing a job or a close relative and having no support network to back them up. 

WLM have been working to bring homeless people off the streets for the last 130 years. Last year they helped 249 homeless people come off the streets and into accommodation but they do not get any government money for their work. They need to raise around £500,000 every year for the work they do. Please support them by giving a donation.
