Story
Why Mountain Rescue?
I like to think I'm a good navigator, I've been hill walking for several years and more recently in the last 3 years moved into trail running. Although I'd like to think I could get myself out of most situations on the hill, sometimes things just go wrong and Mountain Rescue are always there to help, without question.
I've also entered and continue to enter a number of trail running events. Many of these events are supported my Mountain Rescue teams, who provide medical help in the remoter, hard to access parts of the course. Without their support its hard to see these evnets being run.
And so to london
My london ballot place was quite a surprise, my first time entering the ballot so I didn't think I'd get in. If I'm to be honest I'd written it of as a event for 2014 and was on the verge of making other plans. So it was a shock to get the 'Your in' magazine delivered. London will be my 6th marathon so clearly I wanted to up the stakes for this fundraising, simply running a marathon is not enough. I finally acheived the elusive sub 4hr time on a undulating Loch Ness Course in September 2013, not the typical marathon preparation for it, with a pit stop to sort of chaffing and tight calves. So for London, I am attempting to achieve a Good For Age time, which for me is 3hr45mins. It would be amazing to achieve and I'm sure my legs, body and mind can do it and having the bonus of knowing I'm helping contribute to a much needed service in doing it will help keep me going in those final few miles.
