Story
From the 15 to 18th March 2019 Bernard and I will be cycling 331 miles from London to Lands End to raise money for Action Duchenne.
Duchenne is a genetic disorder that mostly affects boys and is characterised by progressive muscle weakness.
Diagnosis is usually around age 3 and by age 12 most are confined to a wheelchair. Life expectancy is not great.
It is thought that there are 2500 boys and young men living with Duchenne in the UK. Currently there is no cure and as it is rare there are limited funds available for research.
I became involved with Action Duchenne as they asked me to be their treasurer. Since joining I have met many inspirational parents who run this charity in the hope of helping their boys and girls but it shouldn’t rest on their shoulders only and so we are cycling to try to help with raising funds.
These funds will be used for vital research into developing new drugs and to fund improvements for those living with Duchenne.
